The City of Valdez is planning to upgrade East Pioneer Drive from Meals Avenue to the Richardson Highway. The existing roadway has pot holes, damaged pavement, and cracked sidewalks. Other issues include non-ADA curb ramps, steep driveways and a sidewalk that ends abruptly. Upgrades will include new pavement, sidewalks, curb and gutter, and improved drainage. A new sidewalk will be added on the north side, providing a connection to the Richardson Highway bike trail.
The project will also include Urban Enhancements at the intersection of Meals Avenue/Pioneer Street, which has been designated a Primary Node by the Beautification Task Force. The Urban Enhancements will be constructed based on concepts developed by the Task Force.
You are invited to join us as we work to create an improved East Pioneer Drive. Project documents, important announcements, and other information will also be posted here. Please feel free to contact us at any time. The project is currently in design and construction is scheduled to begin in May 2014.
